A Night of Nothing

It's been a tough week. So when the bell rang after school today, I couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. We get three glorious days off! And despite the longer-than-usual battle with traffic this afternoon, I was thrilled to get home to my husband and kitten by 3:45. I need to refresh and get some energy back.

At home, I proceeded to sit on the couch for about an hour and a half! We watched a few shows we missed this week, chatted a bit, played with the cat. It was a wonderful start to the weekend and a fantastic way to kick off some R&R.

For dinner, I cooked up my favorite homemade soup: pappa al pomidoro. I used the immersion blender that my friends Katie and Corey got me, and it was SOOOO much faster and easier than using my food processor. I did a rough chop of the vegetables (onions, carrots, celery), then used the immersion blender in the pot after about 10 minutes of cooking. And instead of pulsing the tomatoes in the processor, I just stuck the immersion blender right in the can--super quick! Washing the immersion blender is also much quicker and easier than dragging out the giant processor and washing all the different parts. Thanks so much, Katie and Corey!

We're currently watching the UCLA game (first game at the newly renovated Pauley Pavilion!) and hoping for the first of many victories this season. I plan to be in bed by 9 pm, and we have a super mellow day planned tomorrow. Aside from studying and a bit of grading, I'm hoping to finally feel well enough for my first workout in seven days! A little sweat session is going to feel amazing after a full week off, and I can't wait.

I leave you with a quote from the ultimate legend of UCLA Basketball, Coach John Wooden: "You can't live a perfect day without doing something for someone who will never be able to repay you."

Any big plans for the weekend? Who knows, maybe we'll come across a perfect day.
