Labor Day at the Merry-Go-Round

Hello! Hope your weekend was long and wonderful and that your week ahead starts spectacularly. We had a mellow weekend over here for the most part with a few adventures thrown in for good measure. On Saturday we mostly hung around the house and in the afternoon watched the first UCLA game of the season--GO BRUINS! We have hope for a great year.

On Sunday two of our wonderful friends came over for brunch! Fay and David live in Oakland (remember their wedding at UCLA last year?), and we were so glad to have them over to see our new place and catch up. We talked a lot about families, kids, and travel, and then we sent them on their way back up the coast. Love those two!

After Marshall's nap, I insisted that we get out to do something, so we braved the heat and enjoyed a looooong walk to campus and through Westwood.

We stopped for Diddy Riese on the way back (we shared an ice cream + cookie sandwich) and declared ourselves completely exhausted for the evening.

And then this morning we took it easy--eggs, bacon, and potatoes for breakfast and a walk to the park--before making smoothies for an early lunch.

Frozen spinach, frozen strawberries, banana, peanut butter, and milk

Once Marshall went down for his nap, Terry and I checked out Yoga with Adriene--I had heard of it but never tried her videos. She did a 30 day challenge a while back, and we're going to try it to see if we like it. Day one was great! Perfect for our sore legs from all that walking yesterday.

In the afternoon, we headed out for one little Labor Day celebration: the Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round!

I had never been (or even seen it!), but it was SO fun and easy. Parking was free and super close to the carousel, and there was plenty of shade to keep things cool even on a hot day like today. We watched the merry-go-round once, then rode it once ($2 each), then watched one more time and headed out. Super quick but really fun and perfect for a toddler. On a cooler day we would have brought a picnic or enjoyed a hike, too! I highly recommend it if you're in the area.

Tonight we're closing down the weekend and gearing up for a visit from my mom for the next couple of days! (My dad is staying home with the puppy.) For some reason I have the oven on to bake cookies, so we're chugging ice water (well, and milk with the cookies) to try to stay cool.
