Before we left for our trip I treated myself to a mani/pedi. I went with grey for my hands because Pinterest told me it's trendy. And pink for the toes because pink is fun.
We flew out Monday morning at 10, which left plenty of time for an early workout, a hot breakfast, and some last minute packing before saying farewell to the kitten and heading out the door. Our uneventful flight brought us straight to Maui (with exit row seats, which I absolutely recommend for 5+ hour flights), and with our rental car we were off to the Lahaina area!
Views from our hotel balcony:
Come on...need I say more? We relished this view! How gorgeous is that?
Breakfast at the Gazebo on our second day:
Long line, but totally worth it
Fantastic views
And the best company
Terry and I ventured out for a long run our first morning (about 3 miles, plus a mile or so walk), then grabbed some local fruit to keep in our hotel room.
Bananas, apple bananas, papaya, strawberry papaya, pineapple, and mango
We also headed to Maui Brewing Company for a few tastings.
And no trip to Maui is complete without a sunset or two.
And perhaps a sunrise? We woke up at 3 am one morning to check out the famous sunrise at Haleakala. The drive took about two hours, then we bundled up and waited for the magical moment.
From above the clouds, the view really was spectacular. We watched the sun rise and listened to the locals sing the traditional sunrise song.
Check out all our fellow tourists!
We also explored some nearby craters.
Some other highlights:
Chilling at the beach
A walk through what we called a "jungle" near our new favorite snorkel spot: Honalua Bay
Seriously fantastic snorkeling!
While we're currently exhausted, we had a phenomenal trip and loved the food, new adventures, and sights. I have loads more photos that I'll upload tomorrow, but I'm off to catch up on some sleep!
What's your next vacation?
We're taking a break for a bit but planning another trip to Europe this fall!
Sweet trip. I am thinking about going during high waves. Would love to see some surfing done. I didn't know about the sunrise at Haleakalā. Will need to try that out. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI also want to do the zip lining there next time I go.
Such beautiful pics!
I recommend the sunrise, but I'm also glad I did it so I never have to do it again--3 am is just too early! And I totally wanted to go ziplining...next time!
DeleteGorgeous pictures! Thanks for making us all jealous. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Clarinda! My husband took most of them. :-)
DeleteMaui...I'm so jealous! My husband and I were supposed to go this year but unfortunately, it didn't work out. Hopefully another time!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you guys had an awesome trip and the pics are beautiful!
I think we snorkeled at the same bay! I LOVED IT ... the best snorkeling we experienced on our trip.
