Start of Fall--Except it's Insanely Hot

We said goodbye to my parents on Friday, which was rough for me. I love having them here, for the moral support, the small breaks from carrying our giant baby around (just kidding, I cannot get enough of snuggling that adorable chunk), and the company. No matter how old I get, I'll always love hanging out with my parents. Plus, we get to have pictures of all three of us for a change!

(Granted, I look terrible, but that's because Marshall was having a rough week of sleep. Terry looks amazing, of course. Men don't need sleep to look good.)

It's been HOT around here again. (California didn't get the memo that it's supposed to be fall.) But Marshall's been wearing t-shirts and a diaper and it's adorable. I love this shirt that Marshall just grew into:

Except Marshall has a giant body. Tonight we joined some friends at their house for a quick dinner with their family, and their one-year-old is about the size of Marshall. Oh, well.

Speaking of dinner, I had some homemade chicken stock that I needed to use because we have no room in our freezer, so I made soup on the hottest day of the year. It was delicious, so sweating while eating was worth it.
Don't worry, I shared that bread with Terry. And I shared the beer, which was a gift "from Marshall" for my birthday.

This weekend shall also be remembered as The Weekend of Ridiculous Sports Results. The Giants and Nationals suffered through 18 innings (Giants won! That's 2-0!) and college football saw an impossible number of upsets among ranked teams. Our poor Bruins went down for their first loss of the season, but ASU's win over U$C almost made that loss worth it. Almost. We didn't go to the game, but we celebrated in style at home.

By "in style" I mean we wore blue and cursed appropriately when our team lost.

I'm completely pumped for this week. Terry is taking TWO days off, plus he has his normal Friday off (he gets every other Friday off), so we get lots of family time! Plus, Marshall and I are participating in our very first MOMS Club activity: visiting a fire station! Then, on Friday, we're taking a Baby Barre class, which deserves its own story.

Last week, when my parents were visiting, we took Marshall for a walk on the beach, and I spotted two young moms walking together with young babies. Around these parts I see lots of moms, but the kids usually fall in the toddler range, so I told my mom I wanted to make friends with these ladies. And I did! I walked up to them, asked how old their babies were, and struck up a conversation. They were super nice and we exchanged contact information so we could get together. I never would have done that if my parents weren't with me. Normally I'm pretty reserved around strangers because I have the extremely rational fear that the absolute worst will happen if I try to make friendly conversation. But I'm proud that I stepped out of my comfort zone, and the girls invited me to this Baby Barre class, where you wear your baby in a carrier (I'll use my Ergo) and do some floor exercises. Should be fun!

Time to get to bed early because I'm still trying to catch up on sleep from this week. Have a wonderful Monday!

Do you like making conversation with strangers? I sort of hate it, but now that I'm not working I need some adult interaction where I can get it, so I find myself willing to chat with other moms I meet around town.

  2. A baby barre class sounds amazing. Ha. I have to say, that meeting "mom friends" is so essential when you're in the trenches of infant and toddlerhood! My friends totally get it when we had a rough day etc. and it's nice being around people in the same stage of life :)

    1. I agree! I love all my friends, but I feel this pull right now to meet other moms who understand what I'm dealing with. I guess that's natural of any big changes in life!

  4. Yay for getting out of your comfort zone! I'm definitely more reserved with new people but have experienced awesome friendships when I go out of my way to meet new people.

    1. I hope I'll find the same thing! I'm such a dork in those situations, but hopefully it'll be worth it.
