Our First Year of Marriage

Sunday is run day. Despite our crazy 7-mile hike yesterday, we pulled ourselves out of bed this morning and threw on our running shoes. Scout wasn't thrilled we woke him up, but he didn't have eight miles to run.

We ran up to campus and looped around ("the perimeter"), then ran home. My hips were super tight from the hike, and a lot of the run included small hills. We managed to keep up a good pace (6.5 mph average) and stretched plenty afterward. Eight miles ain't easy, but next week we get to "rest"--only sis miles!

Last week, we celebrated our first year of marriage. And it was such a wonderful year! This was the year we started our own little family, the year we became husband and wife. I thought I'd share a few snapshots from our first year as Mr. and Mrs., plus the best pieces of advice we've heard:
  • Put each other first. Everyone else comes second.
  • Don't argue over the things that don't matter or won't matter very long.
  • Don't go to bed angry.
  • Forgive each other.
  • Don't count and compare the things you do and the things your spouse does (around the house, etc.).
  • Try new things together.
  • Travel as much as you can now, before you have children.

It's been so fun learning about each other, even after five years of dating. Marriage didn't change the day to day for us, but it brought us closer and changed the tone of the conversation, so to speak.

And now, our year of marriage:

We are so lucky to be married, and it's been an incredible year. The first week of year two was also awesome. Yes, we go through tough stuff, too, but overall we're feelin' pretty good about things.

Hope you're geared up for a great week!

  2. What a beautiful post. Thank you so much for sharing pictures of things you were able to do together this past year. You two are absolutely adorable. It's so easy to see the love you to share for one another just by the pictures. I cannot wish you guys the very best for your 2nd year of marriage <3.

  3. I totally agree with not comparing how much either one does. When I feel like I'm doing more work, I just think of all the stuff I didn't have to do because he did it, and it really all evens out in the end.

"Looking back" posts are so much fun, thanks for sharing!
