WIAW and Wedding Diets

I feel like I have to talk about the wedding diet craze (I refer to the hubbub about the diet as a craze; I am not yet convinced that very many people would seriously consider going through with it).

So here it is: Don't do it.

Here's why:
  • A feeding tube? That you wear and use voluntarily
  • 800 calories per day?
  • $1,500?
  • Bloating and other side effects when you return to real food?
  • No mention of exercise or other healthy habits?
  • REALLY?!
If you're getting married, graduating, or experiencing some other exciting event where you want to look your best, plan ahead. Cut back slightly on portion sizes, introduce more fruits and vegetables, and gradually increase your exercise level. But more importantly, isn't it better to develop healthy habits that you can then actually maintain after the big day? Why do so many of us want to be/feel/look our best for just one day? Why not for the rest of our lives? Why not create a healthy lifestyle that you and your spouse can share and, should you have children, pass on to them and others around you?

All too happy to eat on my wedding day!

Okay, that's my little rant. We can talk more about that later if you'd like. Don't get a feeding tube. People will definitely make fun of you.

Today felt all kinds of strange. We had standardized testing at school for the second day in a row, and our class schedule changed to very long (74 minute) classes. That threw me off, but we also had lunch super early. Then after school I had my first meeting with our new cheerleaders for next year, and finally another meeting at school was postponed to next week. I'm not sure what it was, but something just felt off. I'm glad to be home earlier than expected and hoping to get some extra rest tonight.

What I Ate Wednesday for April 18, a gorgeous day in LA and a freezing day in my classroom.

The extra cup definitely didn't happen today. :-/

6:30 am - Breakfast
Scramble with two eggs, big handful of spinach, some Italian sausage, and a few tablespoons of ricotta cheese

11:30 am - Lunch
Leftovers from last night - white pizza

5:30 pm - Dinner
Overnight oats - but they were for sure served in a Tupperware container. Super classy.

9:00 pm - Dessert + glass of wine
Say, what's in that mousse?

Tonight's dessert was courtesy of Julie's post on dark chocolate mousse, made with - wait for it - avocado! Three simple ingredients: avocado, cocoa powder, and honey. Blend. Savor. (Repeat?) It was seriously delicious. Terry was a bit skeptical, but his "chocolate guac" comment didn't deter me from licking my bowl clean. I'd say it was certainly a creative way to squeeze in one more veggie at the end of the day!

Hope you had a fantastic Wednesday!

What's the strangest dessert you've ever had? Any surprising ingredients?

  1. People would do anything that takes no effort to look good, even if it is just for one day. My mother had a lap band placed in a surgery that went really wrong fifteen years ago - she lost weight, but for years she was reduced to eating mashed potatoes and drinking cappuccino. Three months ago one of the main problems from her first surgery was fixed, and she has gained 5kg since... I wonder how long it will take her to pack on the remaining pounds. All this time, and she has not learned a single thing. That's what you get from "easy fix" solutions.

    1. Wow, thanks so much for sharing your mom's story, Diandra. Just goes to show you that education is key - the more we know about what we eat and how we treat our bodies, the better!

  3. The chocolate guacamole mousse was delicious. And I'd love to hear more about the feeding tube diet and your thoughts on it. Maybe other readers have differing opinions?
